BioShock Movie Officially Announced |
I always worry when I hear there is movie adaptation of a video game (let's not mention Hitman) because normally they don't quite get the depiction of the game correct. Normally leading to a bad hollywood action flick with bad acting. The film adaptation of the critically-acclaimed game will be produced by Universal Pictures, directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), and written but John Logan (Gladiator), confirmed 2K Games on Friday. No release date has been announced, but pre-production has already begun. "BioShock fans appreciate the depth and complexity of the game, and our partnership with Gore Verbinski will introduce the world of Rapture to an even wider audience," said 2K Games president Christoph Hartmann. "In addition to his impressive body of work, Gore is an avid videogamer and true fan of BioShock. That was extremely important to us in deciding to move forward with this project." BioShock won numerous Game of the Year awards in 2007, particularly for its sophisticated story, art direction, and use of plasmid power-ups. A sequel was announced for release in 2009. I do think this could be one of the very few 'video games to movie' that could actually work. The plot and storyline of the game is very dense in its content, which if depicted correctly, could make a fantastic film.
